Articles, news stories, and letters to the editor about street spam, CAUSS, and related issues Austin American-Statesman Letters from our readers Unsightly signs Sunday, December 30, 2001 Austin has become the victim of a plague of illegally placed commercial signs. They're ugly, and they're everywhere. Placing these signs along the street or on utility poles is prohibited by the Austin City Code, and violations are subject to fines of $100 per sign per day. If anyone sees these signs, please help beautify Austin by either pulling them down or noting the street and block number and reporting them to Austin's zoning complaint line at 974-2875. There is also a Web site (www.causs.org) devoted to fighting these annoying signs. Our city deserves better than to serve as the background for illegal commercial advertising.
